Technique & Texture
The wet promenade mirrors the whole scene in cream, white, red and blue strokes. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the reflections on the wet ground are painted, not blended: each made with its own stroke.
The Motif
Along the avenue on the left, at least five street lamps with white halos recede into the distance, and at the lower left lies a carpet of rusty leaves. On the right bank stands a large, almost bare tree with sparse red-brown leaves; beyond the lake rise bluish mountains and a green far shore, and a green strip of grass runs beside the path.
