Aleks M. – painter of Slovenian towns

Aleks M. (born 1985 in Moscow) is an academic painter who lives and works in Kranj. He paints landscapes, portraits and still lifes, and the central motif of his work is Slovenian towns. His original paintings are available in our online gallery today, and he also paints on commission: portraits, landscapes and copies of works by the great masters.

Academic path

In 2008 he graduated in painting from the V. I. Surikov Moscow State Art Institute. He commands a range of techniques: oil, watercolour, acrylic, gouache, pastel and drawing. For more than 15 years he taught drawing, painting and composition at the V. A. Serov art school, and between 2015 and 2016 he helped organise international painting workshops in France, Slovenia, Germany and Ireland.

Slovenian towns as the central motif

Working in Slovenia, he found his most important subject – Slovenian towns. In 2025 he held a solo exhibition at the Kranj City Library, presenting 25 works devoted to Slovenia; before that he showed in group exhibitions of the Kranj art society (2023, 2024) and in exhibitions in Moscow. Among his portraits, the portrait of the pianist Peter Milić, displayed at the music school in Kranj, stands out.

Teaching and commissioned paintings

Since 2008 he has also worked as a teacher; today he teaches academic drawing and painting in Ljubljana and runs individual courses. On commission he paints portraits, landscapes and copies of works by the great masters – order a painting to your own wish.
