Violet Burst – pink and mint in movement

Technique and texture
The strokes are drawn with a wide blade and a brush, one over another with no waiting for drying, so the colours mix themselves where they meet. The white drops were thrown from a distance and left elongated traces where they landed. The surface is mostly smooth, with a few thicker places where the paint gathered.
The motif
The bright core lies slightly above the middle and the movement goes outward from it in every direction. The darker edges act as a frame that keeps the burst inside the canvas — at the left and right the colours deepen into dark blue and violet. Nothing settles into an object, so what is left to read is speed, and thin flung lines are scattered over all of it.
Setting and placement
A square crop and a light palette mean this works on its own and needs no neighbouring work. Above a sofa or a bed in a neutral room it brings colour without weight.
