Geode – an agate cross-section in ice blue

Technique & Texture
The pale blue pool fills the centre diagonally, speckled with clear crystal chips, its shape an irregular arrowhead pointing up to the right. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the crusted gold band fully encircles the pool, and the crystal chips sit inside it.
The Motif
Beyond the gold band follows a white-silver halo, then a rust-terracotta band strongest at the upper left and lower right, and a hammered smooth gold leaf along the top and right edges; the outermost bands are blue-grey and white, with thin gold threads in the corners. A cut through stone, where crystal and gold meet in circles.
