Galaxy – gold dust in a green depth
Wall art seeds a drift of gold-ochre loads across a deep green and blue-green square — decorative painting that falls apart into separate strokes at close range and reassembles into one depth from across the room.
Technique and texture
The gold planes are laid thick and cut off square, so they take light at one angle and go dark at another. Beneath them the green is thin and translucent, rubbed back almost to the canvas in places. What gives the surface its pulse is the difference between the two: the greens pass into each other softly while every gold edge stays hard.
The motif
The ground runs from a mossy green at the upper left into a darker emerald on the right. An irregular band of gold and ochre crosses the middle, and single turquoise sparks come up between the loads. A dark, almost black blue block sits in the lower left corner and a vertical strip of burnt orange runs down the right edge. Two small carmine flecks are the only warm notes in an otherwise cold picture.
Setting and placement
Hung on its own, the gold band across the middle lines up with eye level and the dark corners fall away. The dark green settles a room while the gold warms it, which is why it holds up in a corridor that gets little daylight as readily as in a living room.
