Panorama – two walkers on a high horizon
Wall art pushes the horizon high up the canvas, so a misty green plain takes the lower two thirds and a light grey-blue sky the rest — painting on canvas whose whole scale is set by two walkers no taller than a fingernail on the ridge. A row of dark trees runs along the horizon with a narrow blue band beside it.
Technique and texture
The plain is laid in thin translucent layers that break through one another, so no part of it settles into a single flat green. The sky was worked fast with wide strokes and then flecked with droplets of paint that were left where they fell. Each tree is one press of a loaded brush, with no branches drawn at all.
The motif
The walkers are a few millimetres tall and made of two marks each, and yet they give the whole landscape its measure. A heavier clump of trees closes the composition on the left, while on the right the row drops and thins out. Nothing is brought into full focus, which puts the scene closer to a memory of a place than to a record of one.
Setting and placement
The greens here are muted enough that the painting takes its cue from the room rather than setting one. Nothing here will fight an existing scheme, so an office takes it as readily as a living room or a bedroom.
