Without Reason – a white core between red and blue
Wall art butts wide blade-laid blocks of colour against one another across a landscape canvas, burning red on the right and turquoise on the left: abstract painting with no narrative at all, where colour is the only event.
Technique and texture
In a single sweep each block went down and left a sharp plastic trail; the colours do not blend but meet along visible edges. Where the white gathers at the middle the paint is at its deepest, raised clear of everything around it. In places the layer beneath shows through the top one, which gives the planes depth without any shading.
The motif
Deep red and scarlet run down the right in close upright bars. The middle climbs from orange through gold-yellow into a clean white that runs downward as a broad smear. The left edge carries turquoise and cobalt in horizontal bands with a warm brown-ochre strip beneath them, and short orange-red marks appear on a bluish grey ground at the upper left.
Setting and placement
The white core needs to be met head-on rather than at an angle, so a wall you walk toward suits it better than one you pass. It brings strong colour into a neutrally furnished room, which is why a white or pale grey wall serves it better than a coloured one.
