The Ship – Salvador Dalí
The Ship is a painting by Salvador Dalí: a sailing ship whose white sails and ropes grow out of a human figure standing in the surf with outstretched arms. We paint our hand-painted study of The Ship to order on canvas, in oil or acrylic, in 8 sizes from 40 × 30 cm to 150 × 120 cm or in a custom size. What does The Ship show?
In The Ship a dark figure stands barefoot on a sandy beach at the edge of a rough blue sea, arms spread wide, and from the head and shoulders grows a tall sailing ship with billowing white and golden sails, its ropes held in the outstretched hands; behind it is a bright sky with white clouds. Dalí liked to paint double images in which one thing turns into another, and in The Ship man and ship become one – a picture of travel, wind and freedom.
How is our hand-painted study of The Ship made?
Our painters paint the study of The Ship by hand, with brushstrokes of different thickness, separately for every order. We paint in oil or acrylic, depending on the subject and the size, so the surface of The Ship has a real paint texture that a print does not have. The first photograph shows our finished study of The Ship in a silver frame on the easel, the second and third photographs show it from both sides, the fourth photograph shows the frame and the painted sky up close, and the fifth photograph shows the hand-painted sails, ropes and figure up close. When The Ship is finished, we photograph it and send you the photo for approval.
