Turquoise Crystals – a mosaic of combed facets
A tight mosaic of fan-shaped crystal facets across the whole turquoise-green range: each facet is combed with fine parallel grooves radiating from its own node like a straw fan, and thin, near-black outlines separate them from one another.
Technique & Texture
The light has its own geography: the brightest mint and light turquoise facets lie along the top and the right side – large bright fans at the upper left, the upper right, the middle right and the lower right corner. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the grooves are incised into fresh paint, not drawn.
The Motif
The darkest forest-emerald facets trail in an S shape from the left middle down across the lower centre – a dark spine that gives the bright rim its depth. Crystal and tropical leaf at once: the painting is a mineral that grows.
