Description

Grey Squares – a collage of a plastered wall
A collaged plaster wall of rectangles in white, grey and anthracite, with inlaid gauze and ribbed fabric, with one gold event at the left middle and its echo at the right edge: a large cracked white square sits upper mid-right, mesh gauze shows through its top, and a smooth white square is at the lower mid-right.
Technique & Texture
In the upper left corner is a ribbed velvet strip with vertical ribs, a dark anthracite band runs along the top edge, a black-brown block is at the left middle, and grey blurred blocks lie at the lower left and lower centre. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the gauze and ribs are real inlaid textures, not painted.
The Motif
The gold appears in two patches, not a continuous band: a broad crusted patch left of centre at mid-height and a separate patch at the right edge, with crumbs at the lower right where the white square interrupts it. Below the gold zone teal glints peek through – a city facade assembled from varied surfaces.
Styling & Placement
An urban painting on canvas for living rooms, offices and city lofts; the varied surfaces draw the eye, the gold adds warmth. Wall art for spaces with an industrial character.
