Golden Vortex – a storm eye in spiral rings
A huge storm-eye spiral filling the whole canvas, with rings of teal, white and charcoal turning around an eye in the upper right corner, gold chains riding the ring crests: the eye sits upper right, wrapped in a tight gold ring with a dark teal core.
Technique & Texture
The successive rings widen to the left and downward – a white band, a teal band, a charcoal-navy band – rising through the lower half and back up the left side. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the rings are dry-brushed and textured, and the gold flakes are thick with black grit.
The Motif
Broken gold chains follow two arcs – an inner one around the eye and a long outer one from the upper centre through the left middle to the lower right edge – while the lower left corner stays pale, outside the vortex. A centripetal force that pulls the eye into the centre and will not let it go.
