Description
Office – warm bands run down into each other
Wall art washes horizontal bands of orange, gold, ochre, mallow and green one above another and then lets the colour run — painting on canvas here is as much about gravity as about the bands it is pulling on.
Technique and texture
The paint went on fluid and was drawn downward, which is why every band leaves runs of its own. The dark divisions between them are picked out with small sparks of red, blue and white that behave like reflections on water. The surface is smooth and carries no relief at all — the whole tension is in the colour.
The motif
The bands are of unequal width and gather toward the middle, so the rhythm never turns mechanical. Vertical runs cross the borders and tie the bands to each other. The repeated horizontal division brings horizons to mind without the picture ever becoming a landscape.
Setting and placement
A landscape crop with a calm horizontal structure fills the wide empty stretch above a table or a cabinet, which is the wall most rooms have and few pictures fit. Timber and copper are what the warm range wants near it.
