Relaxation – two dry discs and one flower
Wall art lays two large dry discs on a silver-grey ground in warm brown and gold-ochre, and leaves everything else empty: abstract painting in which one small violet flower on a thin stem between them is the only saturated colour, and therefore the place the eye always stops.
Technique and texture
The discs are built from a dense relief deposit cut with radiating lines that run from the centre out to the rim. The surface underneath is knife-laid in wide flat passes and rubbed back in places to a lighter layer beneath. The edge of each disc is blackened with a dry, furred stroke that separates it from the ground.
The motif
The left disc is larger and faces square out; the right one is turned slightly and more cracked, so the two are not a repeat. Two closed dark buds on short stems stand beside them. The flower between the discs is small enough to be missed at a glance and is what the whole arrangement is built around.
Setting and placement
The palette is deliberately quiet, so the piece does not compete with furniture and carries a small room. It belongs where the room is meant to slow down, and where nothing hangs beside it.
