Vase II – flowers floating over a dark wall
Wall art floats stylised flowers on thin stems in an arc above a gold-brown vase, each head coiled into a flat spiral and none of them touching — painting on canvas in which the spacing is the composition. The ground behind is dark, nearly black, and marked with vertical traces that read as rain.
Technique and texture
The ground is built from a dense scratched deposit with lighter layers showing through, an effect close to corroded metal. Each flower is formed separately, like a relief button, and stands off the plane of the canvas. The vase is the most sculptural part of the piece: its surface is a mass of irregular gold deposits that catch light unevenly.
The motif
The vase sits low, in the bottom third, resting on a red horizontal plane that behaves like a table. Stems open upward and outward from it. To the left of the vase is an oval element with horizontal grooves; to the right, three small gold squares. Both additions work as a deliberate graphic counterweight rather than as decoration.
Setting and placement
A dark ground and an earth palette get on with wood, leather and coarse weave. A tall narrow stretch of wall is what it wants — a doorway return, or the space beside a cupboard.
