Description
Party – glasses in a vertical file
Painting on canvas tiers elongated figures one above another up the whole height of a narrow canvas and puts a glass in every hand — decorative painting with the rhythm of a tower rather than of a scene.
Technique and texture
The figures are painted flat, in smooth colour fields with no modelling, and bounded by an even black contour. The ground is the opposite: dense orange coils run across a blue-green base, applied with a fine tip. The streams of wine are pulled in one unbroken stroke from the top down into the glass below.
The motif
The figures are stretched in height and have small heads, so the file reads as a tower. The faces are caricatured — large eyes, small mouths, emphasised cheekbones — and depict nobody in particular. A pair of hands reaches in from above and pours, and what they pour becomes the one unbroken line joining the top of the picture to its foot.
Setting and placement
On a tall tight wall the upright beat of the figures is the point — in a dining corner, beside a door frame, in a narrow passage. The blue-green ground connects it with cooler furniture.

Party on a tall, narrow wall
Party is painted in 15 portrait sizes, from 35 x 80 to 180 x 395 cm. The tower of figures with glasses belongs on narrow walls: 40 x 88 cm fits beside a door frame, 50 x 110 cm in a dining corner, and 60 x 130 cm above a 90 cm console, about two thirds of its width. A tall stairwell wall can carry 80 x 175 cm or 90 x 200 cm.
Choose YES in the Stretcher menu and the blue-green Party canvas arrives stretched on a wooden stretcher, ready to hang. Party gets a frame only if you pick one in the Frame menu, which starts at Without frame. Delivery takes 15–45 days. The photograph shows Party in the studio, in an optional wide black frame with a pale inner border. The painting is hand-painted, and its black outlines and streams of red wine are not a print.
Party: questions about buying
Which size of Party suits a wall beside a door?
For a narrow strip of wall next to a door frame we suggest 40 x 88 cm or 50 x 110 cm, so the tower of figures stays slender.
Does Party arrive ready to hang?
Yes – if you choose YES in the Stretcher menu, Party is stretched on a wooden stretcher and can go on the wall at once.
Is the frame included with Party?
A frame for Party is optional – the Frame menu starts at Without frame, and the wide black frame is chosen separately.
Can I order Party in another portrait size?
If none of the 15 sizes between 35 x 80 and 180 x 395 cm suits your wall, write to us about a painting made to order.
