Description

Two Figures – a line portrait in cubist language
Two intertwined figures in the language of flat planes – beige, black, grey and cream planes with one continuous drawing line, a turquoise fragment and a pair of red lips: a profile face is at the upper left of centre, with red lips, the only red of the painting, and a black hair mass at the upper right.
Technique & Texture
A black column of a dress falls down the centre between cream figure planes, and at mid-height two white hands reach toward each other. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – a turquoise-blue curled fragment curls along the back of the right figure, and tan and beige planes lie left and right.
The Motif
At the foot of the black column is a zigzag mark, and at the lower right a signature. A line portrait of two figures in the cubist tradition, hinting at intimacy, which the viewer completes in the mind – a suggestiveness that invites.
