Moon in the Night – a pale ring on sooty black
A single bone-pale ring on a sooty black grainy field – a darkened moon, the darkest and most minimal piece of the series: the ring sits right of centre, its right arc thick and crusted, bone-beige, like a bright rim, thinning toward the upper left and fading into a barely visible trace.
Technique & Texture
The interior of the ring is the same dark graininess as the field – the moon is dark, only its rim shines. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the field is a heavy grainy sooty black, with the texture of sand or coffee grounds.
The Motif
Along the top edge and in the upper right corner rust-copper glints flash, a copper hint breathes across the upper right, and along the right edge a faint violet sheen trembles. An eclipse caught in a single arc – a zen moon that burns on only one side.
