Horses – four at full gallop toward the viewer
Painting on canvas drives four horses at full gallop straight out of the picture, two white and two in a dark, almost graphite blue, built from very few but very decided strokes with the ground still showing between them — wall art in which the legs cannot be counted, and that is exactly why the movement reads as fast. The ground behind is greenish grey and blurred, as though dust were rising.
Technique and texture
The paint is set down with a knife and a wide bristle and never corrected, so each pass stays legible as a trace of speed. The pale horses are made from clean white and grey with cool reflections; the dark two from blue-black deposits with narrow bright edges. The bottom edge is dusted with small gold-ochre impressions that suggest lifted ground.
The motif
The heads are set at different heights and none of them is fully drawn — manes and legs merge into the ground in places, so the movement stays unfinished. The front pair are larger and sharper, the back two blurred, which builds depth without any perspective drawing at all.
Setting and placement
A dark, held-back palette is strong above dark furniture or against a grey wall. Hang it in a living room, a study or a foyer where a motif with some energy is wanted.
