Collage – fabric swatches on cream plaster
An abstract painting that works like a tailor’s table: on the right half of the cream-white plaster, some eight rectangular patches gather in a column – white burlap at the top, beige with a rusty edge and solid brown beneath it, a smooth grey rectangle with a cream strip at the centre, brown burlap at the right edge, and a peach-sand patch lower down.

Each patch carries its own texture of fabric or plaster, while the ground is cream plaster with vertical knife traces and stronger relief smears in the lower left corner. This is a hand-painted work of art – the patches are layers of material, not printed patterns.

The anchor of the composition is a dark navy-black square at the lower right – the darkest and quietest patch of the collection. The left half of the canvas stays open and airy, so the column of swatches works as a collection, not a crowd.

Over an armchair with a side table choose 70 x 88 or 80 x 120 cm, in a hallway or by an entrance 50 x 63 or 60 x 90 cm, and on a large living-room or dining-room wall 130 x 165 or 150 x 190 cm. Let the painting take up roughly two thirds of the width of the furniture below. With YES under Stretcher it arrives stretched on a wooden stretcher bar, ready to hang, and a frame is your choice. How should I hang and look after it?
Keep the centre of the painting at eye level, about 150 cm from the floor; above an armchair or a side table, leave 20 to 30 cm between the furniture and the bottom edge. Side light from a window or a lamp brings out the textures of the patches and the relief. Clean the surface only lightly with a soft dry brush, without water or cleaners, and keep the painting away from radiators.
