Collage – fabric swatches on cream plaster
An abstract painting that works like a tailor’s table: on the right half of the cream-white plaster, some eight rectangular patches gather in a column – white burlap at the top, beige with a rusty edge and solid brown beneath it, a smooth grey rectangle with a cream strip at the centre, brown burlap at the right edge, and a peach-sand patch lower down.
Technique & Texture
Each patch carries its own texture of fabric or plaster, while the ground is cream plaster with vertical knife traces and stronger relief smears in the lower left corner. This is a hand-painted work of art – the patches are layers of material, not printed patterns.
The Motif
The anchor of the composition is a dark navy-black square at the lower right – the darkest and quietest patch of the collection. The left half of the canvas stays open and airy, so the column of swatches works as a collection, not a crowd.
