Rounded knife tiles in white, cream and pale grey tones, filling the canvas within a smooth flat border – a sculptural white mosaic: fist-sized rounded slabs are laid edge to edge, each with a raised lip that catches a shadow.
Technique & Texture
A tonal drift runs from pure white at the centre and upper right, through cream at the left middle and lower centre, to a cool grey at the upper left and in the right column. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the mosaic sits within a smooth pale border that frames the field like the edge of the canvas.
The Motif
A grey block is in the lower left corner with a grey thumb-shape above it, a small dark-grey tab is at the right edge, and a greyish slab near the upper right edge. A sculptural whiteness, where the tonal differences between white, cream and cool grey play in the raking light.
