Dimensions of Art I – a silver wedge across cracked red
Wall art fractures a saturated red field into a net of cracks and then drives a wide silver-white wedge diagonally across the middle of it: modern painting in which the wedge touches no edge at all and simply stops in the air, surrounded by red.
Technique and texture
The red was laid thick and left to craze until the net across it reads as dried clay. The wedge was combed into dense parallel furrows and then smoothed along its rims, which makes it the brightest and the flattest thing on the canvas. Gold-amber streaks were dropped from above the top edge and ran down on their own, with no hand guiding them.
The motif
The black bands are not parallel: the lower runs obliquely beneath the wedge while the upper curves along the top, and they meet in the right-hand corner. A dark, coarsely textured field takes the lower right corner and anchors everything above it. White drops run down the wedge and out across the red without following anything.
Setting and placement
Red at this strength will decide the colour of the room, so it wants neutral company. White or grey furniture is the safest neighbour, and a plain wall is what lets the wedge stop in mid-air the way it was meant to.
