Meaning III – a pink horseshoe over olive
Wall art curves three pink forms over a green-grey ground that was worked entirely with a knife, the largest of them a broad horseshoe opening upward across the lower half: modern painting carried by one saturated colour, with the ground doing none of the work at all.
Technique and texture
The pink went on in one thick smooth layer that holds nothing but knife tracks, so it reads as inserted material rather than as a stroke. Beneath the pink, olive, grey and dark green were dragged across one another in short passes, and not one passage of it lands the same as its neighbour. Thin lines are scratched into the paint across the whole surface and show up only when you are close to it.
The motif
A pale yellow arc lies inside the horseshoe, following it at a shorter radius and filling the middle with light. The blue rectangles are all set near the edges and never in the centre, so they pull the eye outward instead of holding it. None of the pink forms touch: ground shows between them, and that gap is what gives each of them weight.
Setting and placement
One saturated colour over a calm ground carries at a distance, so this needs no neighbours to make its case. It is at its best over plain furniture, in an office or a hallway where the wall is not already busy.
