Music – a band of strokes and its echo
Wall art doubles a narrow band of vertical strokes across the middle of an almost empty canvas, repeating it beneath a horizontal line as a reflection: painting on canvas in which blue, green, red and black are set down side by side and never mixed.
Technique and texture
Each stroke was knifed straight down in one pass with nothing corrected afterwards, which is why the edges stay sharp and irregular. The reflection uses the same colours thinned out and pulled longer, so it reads softer than what it repeats. Behind them lie thin overlapping layers with the tool marks left in.
The motif
The strokes differ in height and in width — some reach almost to the top of the band, others stop halfway — and the rhythm never repeats itself. The red strokes are gathered at the centre and are the only warm colour on the canvas. That horizontal line between the band and its echo is the one straight edge in the whole picture.
Setting and placement
Most of this canvas is pale and nearly bare, so it will not weigh down a small room. Air like that suits light furniture and white walls, and the band still reads clearly from the far side of a bedroom.
