Wall art roots one dark tree at the exact centre of a cream-white worked ground and runs a turquoise band under it: painting on canvas that looks like old cracked plaster from close to and like a quiet landscape from further back.
Technique and texture
The ground is the most worked part of the picture: laid thick, smoothed and then combed out into whorls and cracks that throw shadows of their own. The tree is the opposite, painted thin with a dry, almost dabbing stroke that breaks the foliage into small dots. The turquoise band at the foot went on wet and leaves runs.
The motif
The tree stands exactly at the centre, its trunk thin and straight, its crown round and dense with thinner edges. The ground is cream-white with ochre and brown veins winding through it like cracks. At the foot a turquoise band appears and passes into ochre brown toward the right; the shadow of the tree falls across it as a dark horizontal stroke.
Setting and placement
A calm, light picture for a bedroom, a hallway or a reading corner. The cream ground agrees with white and sandy walls, and the turquoise band gives the room its one cool note. The tree sits dead centre, so the wall around it should be plain enough to leave that symmetry alone.
