Description
Planets – rings scattered over a silver ground
Wall art strews concentric circles of three sizes across a densely worked silver ground, each of them built from rings of green, red, blue and turquoise stacked from the outside in: abstract painting in which no circle ever overlaps another.
Technique and texture
Short crosswise strokes leave the silver ridged and sharp-edged, so it is never even anywhere across the canvas. The rings were painted flat and matt with no drawing inside them, which lifts them clear of all that activity. Every boundary between colours in a ring was drawn in one pass and left hard.
The motif
The circles are not arranged to a pattern: some squeeze together in pairs, others stand alone, and the whole reads as scattered rather than placed. The colour sequences never repeat — where one has a red core, its neighbour has turquoise. Because nothing overlaps, the silver stays visible between them everywhere.
Setting and placement
A silver ground goes with metal, glass and light wood. Side light moves across the ridges and changes the picture through the day — a hallway, a nursery, a living room.
