Golden Mist – gold islands through the fog
Archipelagos of leaf gold sailing through a heavily textured greyish-grey cloud field with pale blue pockets – gold falling through the mist: the main crusted mass lies left of centre at mid-height, the heaviest and most frayed gold of the painting.
Technique & Texture
At the upper left is a gold band, a broken chain winds across the mid-right, a small vertical fragment sits at the upper mid-right, and loose flakes lie at the lower centre and along the right. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – olive-green hints curl in along several gold edges.
The Motif
The field carries heavy plaster strokes, pale blue pockets lie beside the gold, strongest right of centre and at the left middle, while slate-grey cloud masses sit at the left middle, lower left and lower right; a pink hint breathes at the upper left, and the lower edge stays pale. A dreamlike painting in which the gold settles like a sunbeam through morning fog.
