Description
Dark Layers – The Quiet Luxury of Darkness
A near-monochrome material painting in horizontal bands of a single palette: black, anthracite, very dark navy blue, and silver grey. The painting does not shout – its power lies in a surface that must be experienced up close. Quiet luxury for spaces with character.
Technique & Texture
Most of the canvas is covered by a densely crusted, wrinkled texture – like cracked leather or bark – across which a dry brush draws the ridges of the relief with silver highlights. It is a hand-painted artistic painting; the video above (0:34) first shows the large canvas of Dark Layers in a thin black frame on a low wooden bench, then a hand dry-brushing silver across the grey relief with a wide flat brush, then the whole painting among framed works, and finally the crusted silver relief close up.
The Motif
Across the full width of the canvas run two satin-smooth dark bands – the first slightly above the middle, the second just below it – squeezing a narrow crusted strip between them. It is this dialogue between the smooth and the furrowed that gives the painting its rhythm: calm, tension, calm.
Styling & Placement
A sophisticated choice for modern interiors – offices, reception areas, minimalist living rooms with darker furnishings, stone, or dark wood. Under directed lighting its relief truly comes alive.

Dark Layers in an upright format
The near-black material painting Dark Layers comes in 16 upright sizes, from 40 x 63 to 200 x 319 cm. A narrow wall between doors needs 50 x 79 cm, a console of about 100 cm takes 70 x 111 cm, the wall beside an armchair or sofa 100 x 159 cm, and a tall stairwell wall 140 x 223 or 160 x 255 cm.
The first photograph shows it in an optional thin light-wood frame on a pale wall beside a white armchair and a potted olive tree, and the second photograph in an optional thin black frame in the studio, where the silver relief of the crust shows. So the frame for Dark Layers is yours to pick in the Frame menu, which begins at Without frame. Choose YES under Stretcher and the anthracite canvas arrives stretched on a wooden stretcher, ready to hang. Delivery in 15–45 days. The wrinkled crust with its silver highlights is hand-painted with a dry brush, and nothing here is printed.
