Golden River – a comet sweep across the black
A white-grey comet sweep winding from the upper left across the canvas to a wave-hook at the right, with a gold impasto river on its crest and a pool at the lower left – white on black, one gesture: the white-grey body enters wide at the upper left, narrows toward the right and hooks to the right, like a breaking wave.
Technique & Texture
The gold river runs in two courses – along the sweep’s upper crest, boldest at the hook’s rim, and in a lower branch back through the centre into a heavy pool with drops in the lower left corner. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the gold is a thick impasto, and orange-rust traces drip beneath the pool.
The Motif
The black canvas holds the right and lower right sides and the left edge below the sweep, and over the white at the upper left black spatters scatter, while white and gold droplets fall across the black. A galactic sweep, caught in a single pull, joining two visual dialogues: light and dark.
