Blossoming – golden islands in turquoise washes
An archipelago of gold-blossom clusters scattered over pale grey, blooming among turquoise washes, emerald flecks and black ink shadows – a lichen field seen from above: five or six main islands, from a large mass at the upper left cut by the edge to a long diagonal chain at the upper right.
Technique & Texture
A central band descends to the right, a cluster rests at the lower left, and another patch sits at the right edge. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – everything is raised leaf with black grit and a sooty shadow beneath it.
The Motif
Turquoise watercolour washes gather in the right half, brightest right of centre, with emerald-green flecks; softer blue washes lie in the lower left corner, and black ink dots and grey sooty mists follow every cluster. Without a plan, yet in harmony – lichen spots that have found their own order.
