Description

Family Tree – three birds on one branch
Wall art perches three bird silhouettes side by side on a horizontal branch that crosses the entire width of a panoramic canvas: painting on canvas where the scene is small and the light around it is not.
Technique and texture
Soft circular strokes carry the ground and build from pale cream at the centre out to deep red at the edges. Branch and birds are laid flat in a single black with no internal drawing, so they read purely as outline. The leaves are ringed with a thin line and filled with pale turquoise, which gives them an almost patterned look.
The motif
The birds are of three different sizes, one larger and two smaller, set to the right of centre. From the left the branch spreads into a mesh of finer twigs that thin out toward the right and leave room for the light. Further birds float in the distance, small enough to be found rather than seen.
Setting and placement
The unusually wide format is the deciding fact: it belongs over a bed, a sofa or a long chest, where there is more wall in width than in height. Warm light and a small quiet subject make it a room-settler rather than a focal point.
