Description
Play of Colors – verticals in every shade
Wall art stripes a landscape canvas entirely in vertical bars of blue, pink, yellow, green, red and orange with silver glinting between them: decorative painting with no motif, whose only subject is colour itself.
Technique and texture
Combing with a toothed tool leaves a fine horizontal ribbed structure beneath every bar. Denser layers are laid over that in vertical strokes and scraped back to the colour underneath in places. The silver patches went on last, with the sharp edge of the blade, and stand above the surface.
The motif
The colours follow no order: blue dominates the right half, pink and yellow the left, and green appears in narrow bands across the whole width. A few darker, almost brown bars run along the left edge and a warm orange comes up at the right. The middle is marked by the brightest, nearly white band.
Setting and placement
This brings colour into a room that is otherwise neutral — white walls, grey or timber furniture. Because it depicts nothing it does not compete with other pictures, and it works in a child’s room or a playroom as well as anywhere else.
