Sunflowers I – two heads under a spinning sun
Wall art turns two sunflowers toward a broad white-gold spiral in the upper right corner, which is where most of the light in the picture enters — decorative painting whose whole warmth comes from that one spun passage. Autumn leaves with pronounced veins run down the left edge.
Technique and texture
The ray petals are set down with a knife in separate, clearly divided passes, one stroke to a petal and no correction afterwards. The two centres are built from dense spherical dots that gather into marked relief. The spiral is turned into still-wet paint, so yellow and white run together into orange in places.
The motif
The sunflowers are not a matched pair: the left is smaller and faces up, the right larger and tipped toward the viewer. The foliage on the left is painted darker and sharper, so it reads as nearer than the flowers. In the lower right corner a cool grey-blue band sets a limit to the warm palette.
Setting and placement
Colour held this warm heats a north-facing room or one with dark furniture. Rooms that face north take it best, and so does a kitchen with dark cabinetry.
