Face – one eye stays, the other dissolves
The painting on canvas breaks down the left half of the face and leaves the right one whole: an abstract painting in which the only eye carried to completion is also the only place the gaze comes to rest. The nose is long and pale, edged along its right side by a cool teal shadow. The mouth is full and closed, carmine red with a violet core in the upper lip.
Technique & Texture
The paint is laid on with a knife in thick fields that stay sharp at the edges and cast a shadow of their own. Beside the nose it is drawn wet into wet, so the teal passes into grey-white with no visible border. Elsewhere it is dragged dry, which leaves the weave of the canvas showing through the layer.
The Motif
The right side is the only one built to the end: the dark blue brow runs in a long arc, the lashes are indicated with thin strokes, the iris is grey-blue. Left of the nose the second eye is missing – there are only vertical strokes of coral red, charcoal and olive, letting the face fall back into its ground. Above the brow no hair is painted; black blots and ochre fields stand in its place.
Styling & Placement
An upright format and a single strong motif mean that wall art of this cut asks for an empty surface and some distance. The cream ground ties it to pale plaster and wood, while the red and teal keep the room from going flat – living room, hallway or reception area.

The first photograph shows Face head-on on a wooden studio easel in an optional thin gold frame, and the second photograph shows the same canvas from the side, where the thick knife-laid fields stand out.
