Description
Night Burst – a blue block and black throws
Abstract painting cleaves a cream field with a dark blue rectangle occupying the lower left quarter and raises a vertical column of dark strokes above it: painting on canvas where almost everything is quiet so that one event can be loud.
Technique and texture
Thin translucent coats make the cream ground and wiped in places almost to white. The blue block is its opposite — dense, matt and even, sown with small white and black dots. The black throws are genuinely thrown: they landed as elongated drops with thin tails behind them.
The motif
The column at the centre is the only place with strong colour — red, orange and blue appear inside it, squeezed into a narrow band — and it ends in a dispersed cloud. Two horizontal throws of black cross the middle of the canvas toward the right. Everything around is pale and quiet. The hard horizontal edge of the blue block is the only straight line on the canvas.
Setting and placement
Large empty surfaces mean this one stays calm despite the event at its centre. The empty cream needs somewhere it will not be crowded, so leave clear wall on either side of it.
