Description

Mosaic of Light – a pastel puzzle with one dark anchor
An airy mosaic of soft rectangular planes laid with the knife: pale blue and white-grey dominate, a peach-salmon diagonal runs from the upper left toward the centre, a peach column stands at the lower left, and a pale yellow plane sits at the middle of the left side.
Technique & Texture
The planes are laid in soft, visible strokes that overlap slightly at the edges. This is a hand-painted work of art – sage and jade green planes at the middle of the right side and azure fragments along the upper edge and in the upper right corner give the mosaic its air.
The Motif
The darkest mass is the navy-blue anchor on the right – a block at the upper right and a wide band at the middle of the right side – holding all the lightness to the ground. The only hot accent is a vivid vermilion-red patch at the lower right of centre, with dark red streams creeping beneath it; at the far right edge, one more pale orange-red smudge.
Styling & Placement
A bright, airy modern painting for bedrooms, living rooms and offices; the pastel tones soothe, while the dark anchor and the red patch make sure the painting is not merely gentle.
