Technique & Texture
The pillar is darkest at its edges, and a pale sheen descends down its centre. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – both flanks are chalky with a fine speckled texture, truly rough under the fingers.
The Motif
The right silver-white band is divided by a thin dark vertical stitch-line at about sixty-seven percent of the width, which gives the band a rhythm. A balance of three bands, where the central one carries the weight of bark and the flanks carry light – an architecture of calm on a single wall.
