Description
Landscape – trees above a shining path
Painting on canvas leads the eye up a bright path that widens toward the viewer and ends at three slender trees standing in an easy, unequal row: modern painting that stays deliberately unfussy, because the whole effect depends on that one perspective pull. A dark brown band crosses the middle, dusted with small white flashes.
Technique and texture
The sky is laid in thick horizontal deposits of grey-white that keep the mark of the tool. The crowns are dabbed in short dense strokes of two greens, so they read as leafy and see-through. The foreground is built in thin glazes with brighter strokes drawn over them to make the shine.
The motif
The trees are of different heights and not evenly spaced — the middle one tallest, the right one broadest, the left one thinnest. The dark band behind them could be a hedge or a far bank; the small white flashes on it stay unreadable and are meant to. Beyond it a narrow green edge runs across the canvas.
Setting and placement
This is the least demanding piece in the group and it provokes nobody, which is sometimes exactly the brief. Anywhere the scheme is already warm, this settles into it without argument.
