Autumn Gold – a glowing line on the horizon
A glowing band of gold-orange flakes strung across the middle between a striped grey sky and a dark blue-grey speckled field – autumn caught at the horizon: shaggy gold, orange and white flakes form the horizon at mid-height, which dips at the centre and rises toward both edges like a shallow smile.
Technique & Texture
The band is densest left of centre and again to the right, and single flakes drift above it into the sky. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – the flakes are raised sequins that light up like grain or sparks in the raking light.
The Motif
The sky carries silver-grey horizontal strokes with a lilac breath, brightest just above the band, while the dark blue-grey field below is strafed with a fine white speckle falling like drizzle from beneath the band, densest directly below it. Three layers of autumn, where the glowing line divides the calm greyness into sky and earth.
