Technique & Texture
Behind the oval, at the upper left, floats a soft white glow like a cloudy crescent, and at the lower left rises a single dark umber trunk with white dripping streaks – the only tree of the scene, enough to give winter its scale. This is a hand-painted art painting – fine dots spray across the whole canvas like mist.
The Motif
Beneath the oval runs a horizontal dark blurred line – a water or snow surface that grounds the moon – while along the right side and lower centre warm rust-ochre clusters gather, autumn leaves that winter has not yet taken.
