Sunset – a fiery column of light between towers
A vertical impasto sunset: from the upper centre, a white-gold column of light descends between the dark masses of tower blocks and strikes the horizon at about two thirds of the height – there, on the very waterline, burns the brightest point of the painting, the setting sun.
Technique & Texture
Everything is built from upright, dense strokes: teal tower masses on the left, kindred patches at the upper right, orange and amber columns crowding around the light, and dark chestnut-brown pockets at the lower left and right of centre. This is a hand-painted painting on canvas – tiny red accents still glow in the left towers.
The Motif
The lower third is water that doubles everything: orange-gold-white reflected streams run vertically across the dark blue-black surface. The city and its sunset mirror each other – fire above, its memory below.

Sunset – sizes, hanging and delivery
The upright Sunset is painted in 17 sizes, from 40 x 50 to 180 x 240 cm; the tall format stretches its white-gold column of light further. For a narrow wall or beside a bookcase choose 45 x 60 or 50 x 70 cm, above a 120 cm console 80 x 105 cm, and beside an office cabinet 60 x 80 cm. A stairwell or reception wall takes 100 x 130 or 120 x 160 cm, and a tall wall 150 x 200 cm. Which size of Sunset goes above a console?
Above a 120 cm console choose 80 x 105 cm; the column of light and its reflection in the water then sit over the middle of the console.
Is Sunset a print?
No. The first photograph, taken from the side, shows how thickly the orange and amber paint stands on the canvas, which no print has.
Is a frame included with Sunset?
No. The second photograph shows the canvas unframed, the Frame menu starts at Without frame, and a frame is only an extra choice.
