Tree with Leaves – golden foliage beneath a storm sky
A strikingly tall format and a single slender tree: an almost black trunk grows left of centre across the full height of the canvas and forks only high up, where the crown fills the upper edge. Autumn gold-amber foliage hangs from the branches in heavy, rounded layers.
Technique & Texture
The painting’s signature is its hanging strands: from the upper right branch, twigs loaded with round golden leaves descend along the right side of the canvas and drip all the way to the middle of the canvas. This is a hand-painted painting – every leaf is a separate, rounded relief stroke.
The Motif
Above seethes a violet-grey and indigo sky with pale teal-white gaps, brightest behind the dense golden cluster at the fork of the trunk; the lower third is a warm rust-copper haze of autumn ground, and the very bottom edge sinks into darkness.
