Description
Horizon I – three bands that nature never made
Wall art terraces three horizontal bands one above another, green-grey at the top, a bright yellow-gold through the middle and red-brown below: modern painting rather than landscape, because no sky does that.
Technique and texture
Each band went on with a blade in long horizontal passes and was then combed through, so the colour sits in ridges and troughs instead of on a level surface. Where two bands meet, the neighbouring colour shows up inside individual furrows, because they were worked while both were still wet. The top edge is the darkest and the most densely combed; the bottom is the smoothest.
The motif
The sequence is not a natural one, and yet it is read as a horizon because the bands are level and the brightness rises toward the middle. The yellow band is the narrowest and the lightest, so it behaves like a source of light held between two darker ones. There is no object anywhere; the depth is made entirely by the order of the colours.
Setting and placement
A long low picture wants a long low wall — above a sideboard or a desk, where the width is available and the height is not. The earth tones settle easily against rattan, clay and pale oak.

Horizon I for long, low walls
The painting Horizon I comes in 16 landscape sizes, from 60 x 30 to 340 x 145 cm, so its three horizontal bands can stretch across a very wide wall. Work to about two thirds of the furniture width: over a 150 cm sideboard or desk choose 100 x 50 cm, over a 200 cm sofa 130 x 55 or 140 x 60 cm, and over a 180 cm bed 130 x 55 cm. A long hallway takes 180 x 75 cm, where the yellow-gold band reads as a line of light at eye level.
With YES under Stretcher, the green-grey, gold and red-brown canvas comes already stretched on a wooden stretcher, ready for a hook in the wall. Whether to add a frame is up to you in the Frame menu, which opens on Without frame. Horizon I is delivered in 15–45 days. The combed ridges were hand-painted with a blade, so Horizon I is not a print but a painting you can feel under your fingertips.
