Technique and texture
The colour is laid in several layers and dusted in places with a fine silver material that catches light. The seam at the middle is the most raised part of the picture, where the load gathers into a ridge. The lower half is painted more fluidly, with vertical runs that support the sense of reflection.
The motif
The upper half is darker, with black nests along the top edge and two pale pink verticals. A bright, almost white cloud marks the middle. The lower half repeats that arrangement in a softer, more dispersed form, with more white toward the right edge. The left and right edges are the darkest passages and close the picture in.
Setting and placement
The seam wants to sit level with the eye, because the whole reflection depends on meeting it straight. Deep blue settles a room and goes with pale timber and white walls; the silver dust is what stops it going flat under artificial light.
