Nude II – a blue skirt against a red wall
Wall art swings one broad blue skirt across a saturated red field and rings the whole shape in heavy black: decorative painting built from two colours held at full strength, with nothing in between them to soften the meeting.
Technique and texture
The red is laid in thin even coats that darken very slightly toward the edges, which is what makes it read as a painted wall rather than as a background. The blue of the skirt is modelled from light to dark so the cloth takes on volume without a single drawn fold. A narrow brush carried the black contour, and it holds the same width from shoulder to hem.
The motif
The skirt takes most of the canvas and the body is subordinate to its shape, not the other way round. Both arms are held away from the torso and make two hard angles that answer the long soft curve beside them. There is no face and no detail below the shoulders, so the figure stays a posture rather than a person.
Setting and placement
Two colours at this strength will set the temperature of whatever hangs near them, so give the canvas a plain wall and no competing pattern. The tall narrow proportion is the practical part: it fits the strip beside a door or the gap between two windows where a wider picture would not.
