Golden Mist – a coastal haze with golden threads
A panoramic coastal abstraction: the upper seventy percent is a vast haze in grey-white and pale celadon, all the strokes horizontal, and woven through the whole upper field run gold-ochre streaks – strongest at the upper left, the middle of the left side and the right of centre – with tiny teal hints beside them and soft grey bands of shadow.
Technique & Texture
This is a hand-painted painting on canvas of long, calm horizontal strokes; above the dark lower band, white spatter droplets are scattered like sea spray at dusk.
The Motif
The lower quarter is closed by a dark shelf of coast or marsh at dusk: almost black and deep green, with a teal sill at its centre – and right in this dark band, at the lower right, cuts the brightest gold-yellow ribbon of the whole painting. The very bottom edge is a rust-brown earthen strip with a tiny orange spark at the lower centre.
