Wall art trickles a thin gold run down the seam between a saturated turquoise block on the left and a wide ice-blue plane on the right: decorative painting making a whole composition out of three elements and nothing else.
Technique and texture
The turquoise field is laid dense and even, with visible vertical strokes and a few scratches down to the ground. The right-hand plane is painted in thin translucent coats of white and ice blue, scored with barely visible lines drawn by a sharp edge. The gold went on last and fluid, and was allowed to find its own way down the canvas.
The motif
A dark brown-burgundy band takes the upper left corner and cuts the turquoise off from the top edge. The turquoise reaches from that band to about four fifths of the height and then gives way to the lighter ground. The gold begins at the top as a spilled arc, gathers into a single thread and runs almost to the lower edge. The right field is brightest at its centre and passes into a warm grey toward the foot.
Setting and placement
A cold turquoise-blue range with one gold accent is well suited to a bathroom, a bedroom or an entrance. The gold thread finds brass and gilt already in a room, and the tall proportion lets it run its full length.
