Description
A Positive View of the World – a yellow field with three counterweights
A yellow colour field with the optimism of afternoon light: warm yellow covers almost the whole canvas, in vertical dry-brush strokes above and horizontal ones below, while in the lower half it is softened by green patches and gentle salmon-pink smudges on the left and right.
Technique & Texture
The dry-brush strokes leave a breathing, airy texture through which the ground shows. This is a hand-painted work of art – the direction of the strokes turns halfway down the canvas, giving the yellow field a quiet, barely perceptible rhythm.
The Motif
Three counterweights hold the composition: a small red spiral circle at the upper right like a sun, a cobalt-blue vertical L-shape at the upper left, and a long navy-black horizontal wedge across the lower right half – like an island with mossy green texture beneath it and a white gleam along its upper edge.
