Van Gogh and Gauguin collaborated occasionally. In 1888, Gauguin’s painting The Arlésiennes and Van Gogh’s painting The Dance Hall in Arles were created in Arles.
The picture The Dance Hall in Arles shows a dance at the Folies-Arlésiennes in Arles. Gauguin’s influence is clearly visible on the oil on canvas, as Van Gogh used the principles of synthesis and the cloisonnism painting style in this painting. There are also obvious references to Japanese art in the painting, which are shown in the unusually raised horizon and the decorative front part of the painting, which is dominated by the curves of the hair.
