Gilded Earth – indigo rivers between golden banks
A heavy crumpled gold-bronze relief, like a gilded landscape seen from above: a golden crust runs along all the edges of the canvas, heaviest at the left edge, the upper right and the bottom, while the centre is claimed by one large connected pool of smoky slate-indigo blue.
Technique & Texture
The pool branches into channels toward the upper left, the middle right and the lower centre – rivers between golden banks. This is a hand-painted work of art – the gold is a creased, high-impasto foil, and the blue is softly shaded like clouds in water.
The Motif
In the blue float smaller golden islands: two left of centre, one right of centre – land the river has not yet carried away. Every shift of light ignites the gold somewhere else and the landscape comes alive again.
Styling & Placement
A luxurious modern painting for living rooms, dining rooms and reception areas; gold and indigo are a noble pair, and the relief gives the painting a third dimension. Excellent beside dark wood and velvet.
