This abstract painting plays with minimalism: across the upper third of a white canvas unfolds a mighty calligraphic sweep in deep black – dense, decisive, with dry edges and grey veils descending beneath it. The lower half remains almost empty – and it is precisely this emptiness that gives the sweep its power.
Technique & Texture
A dry, dense black mass, thin graphite lines, grey veils, and a cream-gold impasto squiggle left of centre: every element is placed with zen-like decisiveness. It is a hand-painted artistic painting, in which every sweep is final – no corrections, no going back.
The Motif
Red appears twice: as a large, smudged wine-red mass at the left edge, partly hidden behind the black sweep, and as a small red calligraphic mark right of centre – like two seals framing the black event. The eye circles between them and keeps returning to the sweep.
